Two little skirts

I finally got a chance to make something for R & her new AG doll! :) Of course at 39 weeks pregnant, I move so slowly that what should be an afternoon project took most of a week, but I was still done in time for them to wear their new skirts to church tonight. Thank goodness they both already had white blouses!

As you can see, they are happy with the results! Everything came from stash~the maroon finewale corduroy was left from the dress I made to wear to R’s baptism, the hem ruffles are a quilting cotton from a jumper I made her last year, and the pink flower buttons are from a SewBaby grab bag.

For R’s skirt, I used Ottobre 1/2006 #12, which I have made before in a smaller size. I like how the front yoke is flat but it is still a pull on skirt due to elastic in the side & back yoke. I used a size 116 with an extra 2″ added in length; the only other change I made was to the ruffle. For a narrow ruffle (this one is 1″) I prefer to cut the fabric twice as wide and fold in half to use; this eliminates the need to hem the ruffle as the folded edge acts as the hem.

The doll skirt is self-drafted. It does have a yoke like the girl version but the waist is full elastic. I think I made the body of the skirt too full~live & learn! ;) A 1/2″ ruffle at the hem and 2 buttons on the yoke worked well. If I weren’t determined to make the skirts entirely from scratch, smaller buttons would have been nice.

Your daughter is lucky to have such a nice mommy to sew for her! And her doll, too! They are beautiful clothes for a beautiful child.
