While at Yellowstone, Larry signed the kids up for the Jr. Ranger program. They weren’t able to finish that day but I promised to make them vests for the patches they will get. Well, next week we will be at Grand Teton NP which has a similar program, so that got me working on their vests this week (well, that and I already had the right color of thread in the serger).
I used the pattern (#25?) from Ottobre 1/2004. . .I’ve been waiting for an excuse to make this vest since 2004. I didn’t have separating zippers on hand so just finished the center front with a narrow hem; and I left off the pockets on one side to make more room for patches. I also left off the collar to save time, and finished the neck the same as the armholes (with purchased bias tape). I happened to haveĀ zippers (for the pocket) and topstitching thread in colors they like! Sizes are (right to left) 110, 134, and 152. . .the pattern stops at 134 so this was my first attempt at the slide/pivot method of sizing up patterns. Let’s just say I’m glad there weren’t many pieces to resize!

For my fellow detail people, lost boy #1’s patch was a souvenir he purchased at Yellowstone. And lost boy #3 is left handed, hence the pockets on the left instead of right.
The vests look great, the lost boys are growing up so much and yet they still look adorable. I didn’t realize you had a lefty boy too. Have a great time on the road trips, I’ll bet there are as many fun stories to tell as there are patches
I’m glad I’m not the only one who plans my sewing around what color thread is in the serger.
I’m sinister too!
