Cleaning day

Our cleaning day is currently Thursdays. . .and I’ve tried to divide the chores so that everyone can help. We rotate chores monthly–it used to be weekly, but I found that the kids were lazier about doing it right if it would be someone else’s responsibility next week.
Sometimes it’s tempting to assign all the work to the kids who are capable of doing it well, but that does no one any favors (even if it does get the house cleaner!). It also doesn’t take advantage of the great enthusiasm for helping that children generally have when they are too small to actually be helpful.

So this month Drama Boy is in charge of sweeping the hard floors (and mopping as needed) while Twirly Girl vacuums the carpeted rooms. Boy Genius cleans the upstairs bathroom; Bouncy Boy Cleans the downstairs bathroom. And it’s Silly Boy’s turn to dust while Baby Boy is cleaning mirrors and appliance fronts. And I supervise while doing those odd little jobs that don’t necessarily need doing weekly. . .
