I know I’ve grumbled before, but I’m going to repeat myself: Spring in Wyoming is not really spring. At least, it’s nothing like the spring I know. Last year we didn’t even really have “spring” as winter hung around until June, and then woke up one day and it was summer. If you looked in the right places, there were some amazingly vivid wildflowers to admire–until they faded and withered away in the hot sun.
Be that as it may, there is one advantage to Wyoming being so dry and windy. I was able to dry my sheets on the line this weekend even though high temperatures were only in the 50s. Ahhhh. I love the smell of line dried sheets!
George was happy to see me hanging things on the line again because last summer I would often play fetch with him while I worked. Well, my silly puppy has gotten faster! I would kick his tennis ball across the yard, and he would chase it and return before I’d even gotten the next sheet hung. At least he was tired by night. . .
The only reason for this post is to share this picture of my puppy, who is not quite a year old:

If you are unimpressed, consider the fact that not only is he sitting still long enough to be photographed but that I somehow avoided pet eye. Just for the record, my computer’s red eye remover does nothing for pet eye.
You really never know what will entertain a small boy, or for how long. Lately Baby Boy has been learning to blow his nose, and sometimes a single kleenex will keep him busy for most of a church service. Who knew such a little nose would require so much care? Not tonight, though–about halfway through the sermon he stopped wiping and switched to shredding. Oh, bother! Twirly Girl gathered up the shreds for me and trotted them to the waste basket in the narthex.
Meanwhile at home, I had kenneled George before we left. Normally he plays outside while we are gone, but with single digit temperatures all day that did not seem wise. He has been teething lately so I didn’t want to gate him in the kitchen. My bright idea was to give him his nightly chewy to enjoy in our absence. Ah. . .well. . .he saved the chewy until he was home and released from his box, but while we were at church he did manage to shred the old towel he uses used for bedding. Oh bother! Well, that would be why he gets an old towel.
Bad days make for more interesting blogging, but a good day is just plain good! And today was a good one, in spite of the fact that school is largely on hold this week for potty training.
That would be the first good thing–Baby Boy woke up with a dry diaper, and kept the same pair of Mack briefs dry all day long. This had as much to do with my requiring him to try at regular intervals throughout the day, but you have to start somewhere! I even caught him with The Look on his face right before bed (ie he was already wearing a diaper), and so we rushed to the potty to take care of that business. In short, the only accidents involved aim issues.
Another good thing is that life with George continues well, and I would brag that he has had few accidents in the house but the truth is he likes to spend a lot of time outside anyhow! For now he is still gated in the kitchen, but we bring his box to our room at night. Larry and I have been getting up earlier in the morning to tire him out with a nice long walk–although if you’ve ever stayed overnight with us, you know “early” is a relative term.
I had my second 4-H knitting meeting afternoon, which went well considering it involved two giggly girls who really would have preferred to play with the puppy. I taught them how to purl, or at least I tried. I think Twirly Girl got the hang of it, but I’m pretty sure that the other girl hadn’t touched her knitting since the last meeting.
I also finished my new nightgown tonight, and am wearing it now.
It turned out well, and the cotton jersey is very soft–although I wish it were just a bit thicker. It will be nice and cool in the summer I guess!
And finally, Larry and I just finished paying the bills for the week. . .and we have more than enough money left. Does it get any better than that?
