Wendy & her Lost Boys

Bringing up 5 rowdy boys & 1 twirly girl!

Silly Boy projects

Going through the pictures on my camera. . .Silly Boy made this poster for his Heritages belt loop last fall. The poster was getting a little bedraggled, so once I took a picture he agreed it could go to the dumpster.

The flags show various countries from whence his ancestors came to America; it’s barely visible in this picture but he carefully threaded lengths of embroidery floss from each flag to its respective country on the map in the middle.

He also asked me to take a picture of a recent Lego project to share with you. 8-)

Pinewood Derby

Last week was the annual local Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Being the week after Easter meant that although my boys had started their cars awhile ago, there was still a scramble to finish them on time. ;)

Waiting. . .not very patiently! Mean parents that we are, we set limits on their consumption of the snacks.

Silly Boy gets restless. . .the Tiger Cubs had raced first, and his car won 3rd place (out of 5).

Bouncy Boy earned the Most Creative award for his snake car, and also was 3rd place in racing–out of 4 Bear Cubs, two of whom had tied for 2nd. ;) Weighing only 1 ounce and having (we found too late) a wheel that wouldn’t turn, his snake never actually made it to the finish line.

The evening wrapped up with the Outlaw class, which was mostly cars built by siblings and parents. Boy Genius took 2nd place in this race.

Close up shot of the cars for Dad. :)

Blue and Gold

The little boys have been looking forward to this week for some time now: their pack finally had their annual Blue & Gold event.

Silly Boy earned his Bobcat, as well as a handful of belt loops and special patches for selling popcorn and attending the Jamboree and Snow Day. Larry got to paint his face, as did the other parents of boys earning their Bobcat–sorry I can’t remember what the different colors represented. 8-)

Bouncy Boy received his Wolf from last year along with several arrows. Like his little brother, he also earned the belt loops and special patches. And after the ceremony, they (and their brothers) headed downstairs and consumed far too much sugar. . .sigh! ;)

Court of Honor

Last night I had the privilege of attending a Boy Scout Court of Honor organized by our very own Drama Boy. He did a very good job, if I may say so. :D He and Boy Genius received a number of merit badges, including those earned at camp this past summer, and both also advanced to the rank of Second Class. Here they are telling about the “most interesting injury” they learned about while earning their first aid badges:

No surprise–they both talked about injuries I pray they never have to tend!

Space Derby

Last week was a busy one in the Scout department–the day after the Boy Scout Court of Honor was the Cub Scout Space Derby. This was a first time event for their Pack, but it worked out well. Larry had brought his drill so ended up being one of two parents in charge of winding up the rubber band powered rockets; here Bouncy Boy is waiting to see how far his will go. His rocket performed respectably; the first place rocket blew all the others out of the water. I mean stratosphere. ;)

Court of Honor

Last week, the boys’ Scout troop held their first court of honor. Both Drama Boy and Boy Genius had earned both their Scout award and Tenderfoot rank, as well as their toting chips. They earned the Carpentry merit badge and Drama Boy also earned the Pathfinding merit badge.

Busy kids

Recently the 4Hers put on a Bingo Night fundraiser. . .I’m sure you’ll never guess who volunteered to bake and decorate a cake for the Kiddie Cake Walk??!

Yes, of course–it was Twirly Girl! I told her I was sure some little girl would be tickled pink to win a ladybug cake. :)

Meanwhile, Bouncy Boy is busy getting ready for his very first Pinewood Derby.

Stay tuned for additional progress reports. . .

Phew!

Drama Boy and Boy Genius are back in the nest, having survived their first camping trip in spite of the winter weather.

Good thing I have a big kitchen! ;)
